The Battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift Follow the line of advance of the Zulus towards Isandlwana, stopping at various places along the way. At Isandlwana the battle is graphically described, after which there is time to walk around the site and enjoy the moving atmosphere. A picnic lunch is served under the shady trees at Rorke's Drift, followed by a guided walk around the battlefield as the epic tale is described from various perspectives. Visiting the many memorials and the excellent museum is enouraged as well. Duration: 8 hours. Distance: 180 km.
The Battlefields of Hlobane and Khambula Spend till mid afternoon exploring Hlobane Mountain and visiting Campbell and Lloyds graves. Also visit Ntyenka Neck and Devils Pass, where Sir Redvers Buller won his Victoria Cross. After Lunch, visit Khambula Battlefield for a brief description of the battle before returning to the Lodge. The Battlefield of Ulundi and Zulu Historical Sites Drive through the emaKhosini Valley, where early Zulu history is covered, en route to Ulundi. Visit the KwaZulu Cultural Museum at Ondini where the museum, site museum and the partially reconstructed homestead of King Cetchwayo can be seen. Then move to Umgungunhlovu for lunch before visiting the partially reconstructed homestead of King Dingane and carry on to KwaMtiwane, his hill of execution, for the story of Dingane and the events leading to the massacre of the Boer leader Piet Retief. Duration: 8 hours. Distance: 180 km.
The Prince Imperial Memorial and the Battlefield of Blood River Spend the morning visiting the Prince Imperial Monument, the site of the dramatic death of Louis Napoleon IV which ended the Napoleon dynasty. Move on to enjoy a picnic lunch at Blood River, before looking around the Blood River Memorial with its 64 bronze wagons whilst enjoying an account of the Battle. Duration: 4 hours. Distance: 220 km.
The Second Invasion of Zululand Start at the Prince Imperial Monument, the site of the dramatic death of Louis Napoleon IV. From there follow the line of advance of the British, and in doing so visiting Forts Newdigate, Marshall, Evelyn, Mtonjaneni and Nolela. End the day visiting Ulundi Battlefield before heading back to the Lodge Duration: 8 hours. Distance: 260 km.
